Experimental studies on the tumors transplanted into bone marrow

Abstract
Although there have accumulated much informations regarding the transplanted tumors, no previous publication come to our attention in Korea. The present communication is concerned with the Walker carcinosarcoma transplanted into the bone marrow of the Sprague-Dawley rat.
During the period covering September 1966 through August 1967. the Walker carcinosarcoma has been successfully transplanted and maintained over 15 generations with typical bone tumor.
The transplanted tumor has been observed from roentgenological, histological and macroscopical aspects, and the following results were obtained.
1. About on the 5th-to 8th days after transplantation, a palpable tumor appeared in the implanted area. From the 3rd week on both transplantation-rate and growth seemed accelerated.
2. The roentgenological change could be detected around the 6th to 8th days after transplantation.
3, The tumor had an 80.9% success of transplantation in implanted in the subcutaneous tissue and a 75.3¡Æ% in bone marrow. Mean survival time was 35.5 days (subcutaneous) and 28.0 days (bone marrow) respectively.
4. The successful transplantation rate of a fragment of solid was higher than that of the tumor cell suspension.
5. The local injection of predisolone increased the rate of metastasis to the lung as well as the number of the metastatic nodules.
6. The metastasis to the lung became apparently more prominent when the implanted limb had been amputated on the 8th transplantation-day.
